The Qiming Venture Partners API Portfolio
Every Qiming company that ships an API, scored the way a machine reads it — and why a competent China deep-tech book publishes APIs but has not yet operationalized trust.
About this paper
I read Qiming Venture Partners’ portfolio the way a machine reads it — not the pitch, the evidence. Qiming’s public portfolio resolves into my catalog, and 13 of its companies ship a public API I could pull, parse, and score on the same rubric I apply to Stripe. This report is about those 13, because the interface is the part of a company an integrator, an acquirer, or an agent can actually inspect — and a fund’s book of APIs is a truer signal of its real bet than its thesis page.
The headline is a ceiling, not a floor. Qiming’s API book has no exemplar: it tops out at Xiaoman’s 61.2 — the single Strong-band name — and its 13 providers average a composite Kin Score of 41.2, the lowest of any fund I have benchmarked. This is a China-centric, industrial-AI-and-deep-tech portfolio that has learned to publish APIs precisely and in volume, and has not yet learned to govern them: near-perfect spec presence and auth clarity carry discoverability to 88.1, sitting on top of governance at 21.7, operational transparency at 28.9, and a universal zero on examples and idempotency. There is one genuinely distinctive bright spot, and it runs opposite to the mature funds — three companies did their agent work by hand, provider-authored rather than machine-derived, while not one ships a real hosted MCP server. The report reads that signal company by company: the practice-area decomposition, the Kin Score facet-by-facet, the twelve-dimension agent-readiness table, the benchmark with its honest small-sample caveat, and the punch-list of what even the crown jewels have not shipped.
