This is the report that sits above the series. The twenty-six individual Portfolio Reports each answer one question — how good is this fund’s API book? This one answers the question none of them can alone: across the whole top of venture, who is actually ready for the agentic turn, and what does the scoreboard predict about who wins it?

I scored every API-bearing company backed by the twenty-five largest funds on the APIs.io network — 2,654 providers, a union of 1,939 distinct companies — on the same agent-readiness rubric I apply to Stripe, then ranked the funds. Two findings fall out, and both should bother the people who run this industry. The prestige hierarchy is inverted: the most agent-native books belong to the seed and accelerator funds, and the blue-chip growth names sit at the bottom, because agent-readiness is a property of company vintage, not fund reputation. And venture built agents a front door and never built the safety rails: MCP is on half the APIs in the field, but idempotency, consent, and examples — the things that stop an agent from double-charging a card or acting without a boundary — sit at five-to-seven percent across all 2,654. Everyone shipped the thing that demos well. Almost nobody shipped the thing that keeps an agent from doing harm. This flagship reads the whole board, fund by fund.
